"Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival." Winston Churchill, May 13, 1940
There used to be a wonderful irrigation ditch that ran across the field behind our last house (which is very close to our present house.) We would float on our air mattresses from one end to the other. It was very clean and surrounded by beautiful grasses and wild flowers. I was very sad when they closed it up.
I didn't know there were any irrigation works in northern Idaho. Can't recall that I ever saw any all the time I lived up there. Do I need to revise my statement in my other post about how north Idaho doesn't need irrigation?
My dad says when he was a kid, they did all their swimming in the irrigation canals. I'm sure that was illegal then, as it is now, but maybe people didn't get prosecuted -- just like how, in the old days, if the cops caught a kid with a beer, they just poured it out and moved on. But in any case, swimming in a canal is not a good idea: the water runs very swiftly in a canal.
