Is the Holy Father Putting the Smackdown on the "Spirit of Vatican II"?

Biretta tip to Fr. Loren Gonzales at Overheard in the Sacristy, who links to this report from the American Spectator on the forthcoming Tridentine Mass universal indult. It seems that some French bishops found themselves at the business end of some rather firm phone calls from the Holy Father himself after publicly opposing his move to de-muzzle the Mass of the Ages. One of these bishops is quoted as having inanely uttered the following: "One cannot erase Vatican II with a stroke of the pen."

As we know, even a quick read-through of Sacrosanctum Concilium is enough to tell us precisely who it is that is erasing Vatican II, and who has been doing it ever since the Council adjourned -- and it ain't Pope Benedict.
